- You cannot use node titles when ClearType fonts are disabled.
Description
Analytica draws the text that appears in influence diagrams, such as node titles, using ClearType fonts -- a text rendering system developed by Microsoft that produces especially high quality and easy to read text by adjusting the exact location of horizontal and vertical strokes so that it lands precisely on pixels. Prior to the release of Analytica 4.4 in January 2012, earlier releases of Analytica used standard fonts of lower quality.
If you load a model created in Analytica 4.3 or earlier, it will disable ClearType fonts when you initially load it. This is because by turning on ClearType fonts, the exact width of text changes very slightly, with some text getting slightly narrower, and other text getting slightly wider. Although these changes in width are almost imperceptible, it occasionally does cause node titles to word-wrap in slightly different places, and so to keep your diagram layout looking pleasing, you may need to make minor adjustments, such as enlarging the width of some nodes slightly.
We recommend that you turn on the user of ClearType fonts in your model. There are several features in Analytica 4.4 and later that are only available when ClearType fonts are enabled, so if you don't turn it on, you won't be able to take advantage of those features. At some point in a future release, we expect to disable and stop supporting the use of non-ClearType fonts entirely, so you might as well turn it on now.
To toggle ClearType fonts
The option to turn ClearType fonts on or off only appears for models created in Analytica 4.3 or earlier, since the only purpose for this setting is to allow old legacy models to be loaded without any alterations to text layout. If your model had been created prior to Analytica 4.4, you'll find the checkbox for toggling ClearType fonts on the Diagram Style dialog for your model's top-level diagram.
